MINISTERIAL


Senior Minister

Dr. Jody Chapman Wright, Senior Minister, is a native of Chester , South Carolina , and was educated in the public schools there. He is a graduate of Furman University (B. A. Religion, 1981), the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (M. Div., 1984), and Princeton Theological Seminary (D.Min.,2000). He served previously as the Assistant Minister of the First Baptist Church of Savannah , Georgia (1985-1993) and Pastor of The Warrenton Baptist Church in Warrenton , North Carolina (1993-1998). He has been Senior Minister of Lakeside Baptist Church since August of 1998.

He and his wife, Deborah, also a graduate of Furman University , have been married since 1982. She is a Reading Specialist and Tutor with the Nash-Rocky Mount Schools. They have two children: Robert and Catherine.

As the spiritual guide of the congregation, Dr. Wright is responsible for leadership in worship, preaching, teaching, counseling, visitation, and other activities that enrich the religious life of the church and community. As the administrative head of the church, he is responsible for the general supervision of the staff and, in cooperation with the Diaconate and the Board of Finance, gives direction to thechurch's overall program. He is a member, ex-officio, of all boards and committees of the church.

 




Associate Minister

Elizabeth Jones Edwards, Associate Minister, is a native of Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina . She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wake Forest University and a Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary. She has previously served as Associate Pastor of Rosemary Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids (1997-1999) and State Director of Christian Women's Job Corps (1999-2002). She has been the Associate Minister of Lakeside Baptist Church since February of 2002.

Elizabeth and her husband, Mark, also a graduate of Wake Forest University and Wake Forest School of Law, live in Nashville , North Carolina . He is an attorney with Fields and Cooper with offices in Nashville and Rocky Mount . They havetwo children: Spencer and Daniel.

As Associate Minister, she is responsible for Youth and Education of Lakeside.This position involves planning and supervising a program for young people in grades 6-12, planning events for younger children (especially in grades K-5), planning and implementing the Christian education of the church, and assisting with other programs and ministries of the church as needed and assigned.



 

Minister of Music

Jerry Fay Jolley, Music Minister, is a native of Cliffside , North Carolina . He graduated from Cliffside High School and received his Bachelor of Arts degreefrom Mars Hill College and his Master of Church Music at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a Baptist Minister at the Race Path Baptist Church in Ellenberg , North Carolina . He has served as Music Minister at First Baptist Church of Elberton, Georgia (1966-1970), First Baptist Church of Greenville , South Carolina (1970-1980), and Jarvis Memorial United Methodist Church of Greenville , North Carolina (1980-1987). From 1987-1988 he was the Resident Chaplin of Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville , North Carolina . He has been Minister of Music at Lakeside since 1989.

He and his wife, Charlotte, a Pediatric Medical Record Specialist, live in Rocky Mount. Jerry has three sons: Jon, David and Michael and two granddaughters: Erin and Caroline.

At Lakeside music is considered an integral part of the ministry of the church and of the service of worship. In consultation with the other ministers, he sees that the music is integrated into the worship service. He is responsible for overseeing the choirs for various age and interest groups (Chancel , Youth Children's , Handbell Choirs). Rehearsals and worship leadership are coordinated by him. He is responsible to and works with the Christian Arts Committee.

 

PROGRAM STAFF



Organist

Mark Gansor, Lakeside 's organist, plays the instrument at a level that is an example to other organists in the area. His musical additions to the worship service are inspirational. and uplifting. Mark's 20 th year at Lakeside coincides with the church's installation of their new pipe organ, Casavant Freres opus 3876, in January of 2009.

Mark is a native of Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania . He holds a Master of Music degree from East Carolina University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Duquesne University where he was a student of the renowned American organist Ann Labounsky. He was accepted into the Doctoral program at Northwestern University. During his schooling he had the opportunity to study and play in master classes with many internationally known artists. Following the completion of his masters degree in 1985, he remained in Greenville working as a vocal coach and free lance piano accompanist.

As organist he is responsible for accompanying the Chancel Choir's rehearsals and their special music during the Sunday worship service and special evening services. When soloists and other musicians perform, he rehearses and accompanies them. The selection of organ music to be included in the order of worship is chosen by him. He provides music for funerals when he is available. If he is unavailable to play due to his full time work elsewhere, an organist is secured from another church. Wedding services are a separate contract and the organist may charge a pre-determined fee.

Mark Gansor is a self- taught artist. He now maintains a busy schedule painting murals and decorative paint finishes throughout North Carolina .

 



Music Assistant

Carol Lehman Lucas is a native of Rocky Mount . She is a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School and Wake Forest University . Her father, Dr. Gaylord Lehman was the second minister of Lakeside . She has been a member of Lakeside for 42 years. She is employed as a paralegal with the law firm of Keel, Lassiter, Duffy and Sperati. Will Lucas is her husband and is involved with the music of Lakeside . John and Jeff are their two sons. Both of the boys have been very active in all of the youth and music programs.

As Music Assistant, which is part time, she is responsible for the maintenance of the handbells and the filing of the handbell music and materials. When needed she assists with the direction of the Children's Choir. The Youth Handchime Choir is directed by Carol. Senior Adult Coordinator.

An active and enriched life is conducive to physical, mental, and spiritual health. Lakeside Church is committed to providing a variety of activities for all age groups. The Senior Adult program, known as The Topnotchers, is intended to supplement the regular activities of the church and provide care and outside activities for older adults.

 



Senior Adult Coordinator

Susan Daughtridge Skinner is a native of Rocky Mount . She attended Meredith College in Raleigh , North Carolina where she received her Batchelor of Arts degree. Her experience includes first grade and preschool teacher and Director at West Haven Presbyterian pre-school.

Susan and her husband Berkley have two children, Carrington and Katie. They are members of Lakeside Baptist Church . She has been a member for 25 years. Working with the Senior Minister and Associate Minister, Susan identifies needs among older adults in the church . She is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing all senior adult activities. She is in touch with members at home and reports to the Senior Minister any special needs. Although this group consists of Seniors, they are extremely active. An activity is planned each month, be it luncheons, day trips to museums, musical performances and exhibits in the area. Whenever a member reaches his/her 90th birthday, a celebration is held in their honor. The youth of the church always plan a Valentine Dinner with decorations, food and entertainment. A Christmas party is held after the Candlelight Service in the home of a member.



Montessori Director

Angela Dell Butler is the Director of the Montessori School (pre-school) held at Lakeside Church . She was the Assistant before she became the Director 9 years ago. She is a native of Greensboro , N. C. She received her education from Appalachian University.

She facilitates the classroom activity and carefully plans the environment in the interests of the children. With her help, the children progress from one activity to the next. Under her direction , each child is educated individually and is allowed to choose from many activities within his/her range of ability. The children in the Montessori School are from 2 – 4 years of age.


Mom's Morning Out Director

Sharon Boistard is the Director of Mom's Morning Out (MMO). She is a native of Long Island , New York and moved to the Rocky Mount area in 2001. She became a member of Lakeside in 2003. She has been married for 12 years and has a daughter, Marrena. She has been in the Child Care business for 30 years. She started MMO at First Presbyterian Church and then joined the staff of the Lakeside Preschool staff.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., she cares and nurtures the children who attend. Seeing them grow, into the little people that they are, is the highlight of her day. Mother's are requested to register their children and to provide them with a snack and lunch. The classes are small and Sharon is a loving caring teacher.

   

ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF



Administrative Assistant and Financial Secretary

Linda Boone Davis is a native of Rocky Mount . She is married to Dan Davis and they have 4 children, Boone, Andy, Cindy and Adam and 3 grandchildren, Elli, Mac and Owen. She is a graduate of Rocky Mount Senior High School and received her Associate in Arts degree from Nash Community College . Before joining the staff of Lakeside , she was a medical office administrator. She is a member of West Haven Presbyterian Church. The Lakeside constitution states that the person in this position cannot be a member of the church. Her son, Adam, is a member and is very active in the Youth program.

She must effectively handle the daily operation of the office and delegate work for the part-time Assistant Secretary. She works closely with the Senior and Associate Ministers, Treasurer, Music Minister and all other church personnel. She prepares and coordinates for any group, committee or minister any necessary transcription or administrative function they need assistance in coordinating and promoting an activity of the church including letters, cards, reservation, ordering of supplies, etc.

Linda is the voice you hear when you call Lakeside and handles your call in a professional and efficient manner. She is usually the first person you see when you enter the church office suite. With her knowledge of the operations of the church, she will answer your questions or put you in contact with the person who can best serve you.

Her financial duties consist of recording and depositing all monies donated to the church. She must keep accurate financial records and coordinate these records with the CPA for a monthly report to the Finance Committee and the Diaconate. Checks are written in order to pay all expenses after they have been approved by the minister. Then she has them signed by the proper personnel and disperses them. Quarterly statements as well as an end of the year statement is prepared and sent to each contributor. Confidentiality in the maintenance of all member financial records and the financial records of the church is strictly enforced.

 



Secretarial Assistant

Denise Butler is Lakeside 's part time assistant. She divides her time between Lakeside and West Haven Presbyterian Church. She is a native of Nash County . Her education was completed in Baltimore , Maryland . She has 3 daughters, 1 son , 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. She has been employed by Lakeside for 1 year.

Her duties involve routine secretarial skills to aid the Administrative Assistant in operating the office efficiently and meeting timely deadlines. Computer and photocopying skills are necessary in order to complete her assignments. She performs many other tasks and coordinates specific job assignments as coordinated by the Senior Minister, Associate Minister and Administrative Assistant.




Custodian

Napoleon Taylor has been the custodian at Lakeside since 1999. He is a native of Rocky Mount , but spent several years in New York where he had friends in the music industry. In the time not spent at Lakeside , he has his own lawn service.

His responsibilities include keeping all of the buildings clean and presentable to the public. Whenever special services or meetings are scheduled, he will set-up and break-down the necessary equipment needed. He works closely with the staff and the Building Committee to ensure that the buildings are ready for use by various groups.


   

CONGREGATIONAL LEADERSHIP

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees consist of 3 members elected by the church. They serve for an indefinite term.
They hold title to all church property and execute all contracts, deeds, mortgages
or other instruments, subject to the direction and approval of the church.



Don Bulluck Jr.
is a native of Rocky Mount . He has been a member of Lakeside since 1976. He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High and N. C. State University . He is married to Martha Cope Bulluck and has 3 children, Corbi, Trey and William and has 5 grandchildren, William, Leighanne, Spencer, Casey and Erin. All of Don's children (except Corbi who lives in Raleigh ) are members of Lakeside . All of them play a very active role in Lakeside 's church life. He has held almost every office and served on several boards at Lakeside . Don is the Chief Executive Officer of Bulluck Chevrolet and Cadillac Co. where he began work in 1960. Today his sons manage the business while Don enjoys retirement.

 



Charles Austin Robbins, Jr. (Chuck)
is a native of Rocky Mount . He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High and UNC at Chapel Hill . He has been a member of Lakeside for over 40 years. His father, Austin Robbins, was one of the founders of this church.

Chuck is married to Grace Robbins and they have 4 children, Walker, Austin III, Chaiborne and Irby. He has held various duties at the church. He presently serves as CEO of COECO Office Systems. Chuck has been a leader in Rocky Mount where he has served as chairman of the Capital Campaign for the new Braswell Library, Board of Visitors of N.C. Wesleyan College, Board of Advisors for RBC ( Rocky Mount ), Executive Committee for Boy Scouts of America and past Director of Jr. Achievement

.



Frederick E. Turnage (Fred)
has been a member of Lakeside Baptist Church since 1961. He has served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, Finance Committee member and Denominational Relations committee member. He has served as church trustee for more than 12 years. His is married to Norma B. Turnage and they have 2 children, Trevor and John. He has 5 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charlie, Olivia, Rob and John Graham. Fred is a graduate of Wake Forest University holding a Bachelor of Science degree and a Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest Law School . Until his retirement in 2007, he was known throughout North Carolina as Mayor Turnage. Not only has he been active in numerous organizations in the city and area, holding leadership position in many of them, but has served on state and national levels. He has been President of the N. C. League of Municipalities and Electricities of North Carolina, Inc. and the National League of Cities Board of Directors. He received numerous recognitions and awards for his governmental and community involvement
.




Clerk

Lela Harrell Chesson, a writer, is a native of Williamston, N. C. She graduated from Williamston High School and East Carolina University . She has been a member of Lakeside for more than 30 years. Shelton Chesson is her husband and they have 2 sons, Juan (deceased) and Harrell. Catie is their granddaughter. She was the Life Editor of The Evening Telegram until she join the staff of the Rocky Mount Schools. Upon her retirement from the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools as Community Relations Director, she has begun to write a book. As clerk of Lakeside Church , she is responsible for the minutes and records of all church business meetings. The minutes are to be approved by the Diaconate and are kept in the church office.

 



Parliamentarian

J. Brian Scott was 1 of the 16 original church organizers. He prepared the original Constitution and By-Laws and with a committee reviews the Constitution and updates it as needed. The planning of elections and major actions of the church in order to comply with church laws, has been his duty since the beginning of Lakeside Baptist Church . Robert's Rule of Order are followed when any business of the church is conducted. In addition, he has served as a Sunday School teacher, soloist of the choir and chairman of the Diaconate. Brian graduated from Wake Forest University and received his law degree from Wake Forest Law School in 1951. He has served as a Campbell Trustee, Bank Director, President of his law firm ( Battle , Winslow, Scott and Wiley), and Chairman of the North Carolina State Board of Elections.

 



Treasurer

John Bulluck Kincheloe is a native of Rocky Mount . He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High and the School of Civil Engeering of N. C. State University. Debbie B Kincheloe is his wife and they have 3 children, Mary, Hatcher and Thomas. Kincheloe Hall was named in honor of his grandfather who served Lakeside as minister when the church was in its organizational status. John and his family have been an integral part of Lakeside . As treasurer he is responsible for receiving and disbursing all funds of the church and making regular detailed reports to the Board of Finance and such other reports as the Board of Finance or the Diaconate may request. He must submit all accounts for an annual audit. He is bonded by the church in an amount set by the Board of Finance with the premium paid by the church.

   

Diaconate

The Diaconate directs the spiritual life of the church, determines matters of policy, gives direction to the church's ministry, assists in the care of the families of the congregation and approves the annual budget in conjunction with the Board of Finance. The Diaconate consists of 15 members serving on a rotation system for 3 years. Five deacons are elected each year by the church. No deacon will be eligible for reelection until after the lapse of 2 years unless filling an un-expired term. The Diaconate elect a Chair, Vice-chair and a Secretary. Meetings are held on the 3 rd Sunday and any special meetings may by called by the Chair or the Senior Minister.



Keith Richardson is the Diaconate Chair for 2008. He is a native of Rock Hill , S. C. A Batchelor of Science and Arts Degree was earned at Appalachian State University. Marilyn is his wife and they have 2 children, Sarah and Keith. After playing on the tennis circuit, he became the Tennis Professional at Benvenue Country Club. He became an Independent Insurance Agent with Wilkinson Bulluck. After BB&T acquired Wilkinson Bulluck, he remained as a Commercial Insurance Agent with the bank.

The Chair must work closely with the Senior Minister and conduct the Diaconate meetings. He serves as ex-officio on the Board of Finance, Committee on Denominational Relations and Mission Appropriations and the Committee to Nominate Deacons. Along with the Senior Minister he serves as liaison with community affairs.

Board of Finance

The Board of Finance has general supervision of the financial and business aspects of the church.
It prepares and submits to the church annually a budget of the estimated expenses of the church for the coming year. The final budget must be approved by the Diaconate prior to the submission to the church for adoption.
In cooperation with the Senior Minister, the Board of Finance shall plan and direct the campaign to subscribe the budget. It is to review church expenditures and to keep the church membership informed of the financial and economic condition of the church. It shall determine policies and standards to govern all fiscal operations and shall be responsible for obtaining an annual audit of the books. The Board of Finance consist of fifteen members, serving on a rotation system for 3 years .Five members will be elected each year. No member shall be eligible for re-election until after 1 year. This Board elects a Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary. Regular meetings are held at a time determined by the Board members. Special meetings may be called by the Chair or the Senior Minister.



John Dixon Berry (Dick) is Chair of the Board of Finance.
He is a native of Fayetteville , N. C. , but he has been in Rocky Mount for 50+ years. He attended N. C. State University . He has the Sun Drop Bottling Co. in Rocky Mount and has been extremely generous with drinks and ice for church functions. Nancy is his wife and they have 3 children, Wesley, Jennifer and Ann. He has been a member of Lakeside for 45 years. During that time the Berry family has been active in the church. As Chair of the Finance Board, he is responsible for coordinating with the Senior Minister the scheduling and conducting the meetings. He will present to the Diaconate the status of the financial status of the church. Working with the Senior Minister, he will prepare a quarterly written report for the congregation concerning the revenues and expenditures of the church. He serves as ex-officio on the Committee to Nominate Deacons.
